Poe is a fictional character appearing in the Ruby Gloom franchise. A sophisticated crow, he and his brothers, Edgar and Allan, are named after the famous Goth poet Edgar Allan Poe. They all live in a giant birdhouse attached to Gloom Manor.

Gloomsville is a place for me; where a gentleman can study literature at his leisure, and still find the time to give the guidance & advice that I know would be irreplaceable in my absence!"

Physical appearance

Being a crow, Poe has black feathers and a thick beak. His attire consists of a black top hat with a teal stripe, a spectacle worn over his right eye, and a purple jacket with a gold button worn over a white shirt. He is shorter and rounder than Edgar and Allan.

Personality

Poe is a talkative know-it-all. As a bird of culture and sophistication, he likes to think of himself as a role model to the rest of the mansion's residents. Unfortunately, he tends to be a little too attached to his image and likes to cover up the parts of him that make him look like less than what he makes himself out to be. For example, he'd rather tell people he's performing in an actual opera than admit that he's staying home to listen to opera records. Poe's pampered nature also tends to make him overreact to things that everyone else would more or less take in stride. He is also fond of claiming to be a descendant of Edgar Allan Poe's pet budgie Paco, which is shown in the episode "Time Flies". But despite being obsessed with his image, he is still a very caring crow and he loves his friends and his brothers very much.

Poe appears in 37 of the 40 episodes. He is absent in the episodes "Shaken, Not Scared", "Once in a Blue Luna" and "I'll be Home for Misery".

• His signature symbol is a book or a feather.
• In "Time Flies," Poe is able to chirp like a bird.
• He is afraid of trains. Funnily enough he is afraid of them because of a pop-up book he read as a child. Which was "The Little Engine That Could."
• He sings the song "I Am The Captain" in "Hair(Less): The Musical."
• He drinks a lot of tea when he is very nervous, seen in "Last Train to Gloomsville."
• In the earlier episodes, he had slightly thicker accent, most noticeable in "Gloomer Rumor" and "Grounded in Gloomsville."
